Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt reaffirms success of dual leadership model

Dave Bartz (left) and Mark Long (right).

Dave Bartz and Mark Long, attorneys at the regional law firm of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, were recently reelected as the firm’s co-leaders. Their reelection continues what started out as an experiment in 2001, which was a departure from the traditional law firm business model of a single managing partner. Their reelection signifies success of the dual leadership model, which has been embraced by the firm’s shareholders. Both will be serving their fourth terms in the leadership roles.

In addition to their management responsibilities, both attorneys are actively engaged in the practice of law. Bartz is an environmental lawyer, while Long is a corporate and health care lawyer.

Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt is a multiservice law firm serving the needs of businesses in the Pacific Northwest, as well as U.S. and international clients. The firm has more than 175 attorneys with offices in Portland, Bend, and Salem, Ore., Seattle and Vancouver, Wash., and in Washington, D.C. Schwabe attorneys provide a broad range of transaction and litigation services to many of the Pacific Northwest's leading companies, from Fortune 500 industry leaders to emerging and privately held businesses.

Annual Community Pride Design Awards ceremony Nov. 13

Ten projects will be honored, for innovative approaches to architectural design, community and environmental enhancement, public facilities and commercial development, at the 14th annual Community Pride Design Awards ceremony, which will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in the Public Service Center, sixth floor hearing room, 1300 Franklin Street. This event is free and open to the public.

Award winners for 2009 are Camas Hotel, Oaks at Battle Ground Village, Battle Ground Library, Rasmussen Boulevard; Commerce Avenue, The Al Angelo Building, Humane Society for Southwest Washington, Battle Ground Community Center, Kennedy Fitness Center, Washington State School for the Blind, iQ Credit Union Headquarters, Clark College at Columbia Tech Center, Vancouver Police West Precinct, and Pacific Community Park, along Northeast 18th Street between 164th and 172nd Avenues.

The Community Pride Design Awards program was established in 1996 by various local public and private organizations as a way to recognize buildings, development and civic improvements that have had a positive impact on the community. The program honors developers, builders and the community for helping to make Clark County a great place in which to live and work, both now and in the future. More information is available on the county’s website at http://www.clark.wa.gov/commdev/prideawardsN.html.

DOL reconsiders new passenger vehicle license plate plan

The Department of Licensing (DOL) has modified the plan announced last month for issuing seven-character license plates for use on passenger cars and sport-utility vehicles.

After consulting its law enforcement partners, the agency decided to adopt a configuration that many feel will be easier to remember. The new plates will have three letters followed by four numbers (AAA1111) instead of the plate configuration plan, which consisted of a number, a letter, two more numbers and then three letters (1A11AAA). The new configuration will also yield about 138 million possible combinations.

“We carefully considered all of the comments we received and decided, with the help of our law enforcement partners, to change the plan,” DOL director Liz Luce said.

DOL will begin issuing the new, seven-character configuration in November or early December, as announced. Neighborhood vehicle licensing offices around the state will begin issuing the new seven-character plates after exhausting their stock of the current six-character plates. This means that the new plates will be available at different times in different locations around the state.

The overall appearance of the passenger vehicle plates will not change. They will still feature the standard mountain background currently in use.
