Gov. Gregoire appoints new ecological director

Gov. Chris Gregoire has announced the appointment of Ted Sturdevant as the director of the Washington State Department of Ecology. Sturdevant has spent the past seven years as Ecology’s director of governmental relations and replaces Jay Manning, who recently joined the Governor’s Office as Gregoire’s chief of staff.

“Ted knows this agency–he has a strong familiarity with its priorities and challenges, and already has an excellent working relationship with agency staff, the environmental community, tribes and the business community,” Gregoire said. “I am confident that Ted will work with people in every community and industry to ensure Washington state remains a place in which we’re all proud to live.”

Before joining the senior management team at the Department of Ecology in 2003, Sturdevant worked under Gov. Gary Locke, leading Locke’s external affairs team. Sturdevant has also worked for Rep. Mike Nelson and Rep. Tony Federici in Oregon.

In 2008, Gregoire presented Sturdevant with the Governor’s Award for Leadership Management.

Press conference to be held for Tim Leavitt

“This is an important time for Vancouver, and I am honored and humbled by the outpouring of support I have received,” says Leavitt. “Royce Pollard has been an important part of Vancouver's progress through the last two decades, and I am very happy that he will continue to be involved in and engaged with our community.”

At Wednesday's press conference, Leavitt will discuss his plans for the new administration, including the following: City Council meetings that occur throughout the city, quarterly mayoral town halls, a thoroughly vetted and streamlined city budget, reviewing city permits and fees to help local businesses to be more successful, and a continued fight against tolls on the I-5 bridge while also fostering better communication between project stakeholders.

Those with questions about the Leavitt4Mayor campaign are encouraged to call 609-4846, visit www.leavitt4mayor.com, or email leavitt4mayor@gmail.com.
