Pearson Air Museum to host free presentation on T-6 trainer aircraft

Dan Hagedorn

T-6 trainer

Dan Hagedorn, senior curator and director of collections at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, will present “North American’s T-6: The World’s Most Famous Trainer Family” at a free lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Pearson Air Museum, 1115 East Fifth Street, Vancouver. The North American T-6 Texan was a single-engine advanced trainer aircraft used to train Allied fighter pilots during World War II. Designed by North American Aviation, the T-6 is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force.

Hagedorn, the author of 17 books and more than 250 journal articles relating to aviation, will speak in Pearson’s main hangar next to the museum’s T-6 airplane. After his presentation, the author will be available to autograph his books, which will be available for purchase at the Pearson Air Museum Bookstore. For information, call the Pearson Air Museum at 694-7026.

At the Museum of Flight, Hagedorn is responsible for all collections held by the museum, including more than 150 air and space craft. His staff also manages the Bracken Memorial Library, the largest dedicated aerospace library west of the Mississippi, the Dahlberg Center for Military Aviation History Research, and the museum’s archives of more than 2.8 million images and other collections. For 19 years Hagedorn served as both research team leader and adjunct curator for Latin American Aviation at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution. In March 1996, in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Smithsonian, Hagedorn was named an Unsung Hero of the Smithsonian Institution. Earlier, he had a 27-year career in the U.S. Armed Forces.
