Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Governor Gregoire and First Mike, their daughters, Courtney and Michelle and son-in-law, Scott

Along with the obligatory family photo, Washington Governor Chris Gregoire encouraged charitable giving in her holiday message:

“2010 has brought historic challenges to our state. While there are signs of recovery, we continue to struggle through the worst economic downturn in a generation and its impact on our state budget.

“Many Washington families continue to struggle because of the tough economy and more are turning to food banks and charities for support. Those food banks and charities need our help. Your gift of money or food will help them meet the needs of struggling families.”

Gregoire continued by encouraging Washington residents to give to charities that provide food for needy families, offering examples of three organizations: Second Harvest Inland Northwest, www.2-harvest.org; Northwest Harvest, www.northwestharvest.org; and Food Lifeline, www.foodlifeline.org.

This holiday season, the Governor’s office staff launched a food drive. The employees raised over $1,500 and filled three barrels with food for local food banks.
