Port Re:Port breakfast rescheduled

The predicted snowstorm has prompted the Port of Vancouver USA to cancel its Port Re:Port breakfast scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Originally scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 24, the annual state of the port event will now occur on Wednesday, April 6, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay.

Tickets purchased for tomorrow’s event through the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce will automatically be transferred to April 6. Those ticket holders who are not able to attend the April 6 event are asked to contact the Chamber at 360-694-2588 to request a refund.

Mount St. Helens volunteer meet and greet tonight

Community Services Northwest announces new board members

Community Services Northwest recently appointed two new board members, Cindy Johnson and Lee Schiller.

Johnson is the advertising sales leader for the Vancouver Business Journal. She consults with local businesses to create marketing strategies that best fit their needs. Johnson is also the founder and coordinator of WIN (Women In Networking NW).

Lee Schiller

Schiller is a real estate broker, who has specialized in residential real estate in Clark County for the past ten years. Prior to working in real estate, Schiller gained extensive experience working in marketing and strategic planning for several national corporations.

Community Services Northwest (CSNW) is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide high-quality, integrated mental health, addictions, and housing services, focusing on individual strengths and recovery.

Vancouver firefighters raising money for cancer research this weekend

Vancouver Fire Department firefighters will be donning turnouts and hopping on stair climbers to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Saturday, Feb. 26, and Sunday, Feb. 27.

The Saturday, Feb. 26 event will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the south entrance of Fred Meyer Grand Central, 2500 Columbia House Blvd. in Vancouver.

The Sunday, Feb. 27 event will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Fred Meyer Fishers Landing, 16600 S.E. McGillivray in Vancouver.

The firefighters are also in training for the 20th annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb, the largest firefighter competition in the world, on Sunday, March 6, at Seattle’s Columbia Center.

SW Washington Wind Symphony

The Southwest Washington Wind Symphony will perform works by Ticheli, Whitacre, and Stravinsky in “Fire & Water,” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at Union High School, 6201 N.W. Friberg-Strunk St., in Camas.

The 55-member concert band will play Vesuvius, Cloudburst, and The Firebird Suite.

StreamTeam Earth Day Celebration EcoFair April 23

The StreamTeam is hosting an EcoFair to celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Salmon Creek Greenway, 1112 N.E. 117th St., Vancouver.

The StreamTeam is a volunteer-driven program of Clark Public Utilities. Comprised of more than 800 team members who donate more than 3,000 hours of their time each year to save salmon, members include utility employees, college students, and youth groups.

Fred Meyer donates more than $10,000 to Legacy for cancer services

Fred Meyer customers and employees donated $10,260.63 to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center’s cancer services as part of their quarterly giving campaign.

The money will be used to offer free mammograms, and to purchase cancer education materials and equipment to better serve patients. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center’s cancer programs serve more than 3,600 people annually.

The money was raised through change dropped into coin boxes at checkstands in all seven Fred Meyer stores throughout Clark County during the fall of 2010.

In addition, Fred Meyer employees in Clark County chose to combine their donations to the Fred Meyer Fund – Fred Meyer’s corporate foundation – with the coin box donations.

Clark Public Utilities named J.D. Power 2011 Customer Service Champion

Clark Public Utilities was recognized at the J.D. Power and Associates Customer Service Roundtable as a J.D. Power 2011 Customer Service Champion – one of only 40 companies to have earned this distinction this year.

To identify the J.D. Power 2011 Customer Service Champions, J.D. Power evaluated more than 800 brands. Companies were identified based on customer feedback, opinions, and perceptions gathered primarily from J.D. Power’s syndicated research.

Clark Public Utilities is a customer-owned public utility district that provides electric service to more than 183,000 customers throughout Clark County. The utility also provides water service to about 30,000 homes and businesses.

First-ever comedy night planned at Slocum House Theatre March 5

For the first time ever, the Slocum House Theatre is offering stand-up comedy.
