Hearings on proposed repairs for Battle Ground schools set for May 22, 24
Monday, May 14th, 2012The Battle Ground School District aims to use money left over from the 2005 voter-approved bond measure to fix leaking roofs, rotting walkway overhangs, crumbling parking lots, aging boilers and septic systems, and failing HVAC units (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). The district is inviting public input on the proposal at two hearings at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at Yacolt Primary School, and at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Prairie High School. Repairs are especially needed at Yacolt Primary and Laurin Middle School. Each has multiple roof leaks. Ceiling tiles are frequently replaced, and makeshift systems of hoses and buckets have been installed in classrooms, offices, and hallways to divert rainwater and prevent further mold growth. The complete list of repairs in all Battle Ground schools is estimated to cost $11.9 million. The list is available at www.battlegroundps.org.
