Underground electric lines being considered for
convention center, SE 192nd Avenue
Underground
wiring for both the downtown convention center area
and for the SE 192nd Avenue are being considered by
the Vancouver City Council at its 6 p.m. regular
council meeting today.
In proposed
interlocal agreements between the city and Clark
Public Utilities, the $1.1 million cost of burying
the transmission cables would be borne by the city
for the downtown hotel-convention center, Esther
Short Park project.
The cost of
placing cables underground on the future SE 192nd
Avenue corridor, estimated at $1.5 million, would
be shared by Vancouver, the City of Camas and Clark
Public Utilities.
The downtown
plan calls for overhead wires between 3rd and 9th
Street on Columbia Street to be buried. The overhead
lines on 6th Street, between Columbia Street to 200
feet west of the park would also be set underground,
as would power lines on Esther Street between 4th
and 6th Streets. Estimated cost to the city of the
project is $1.1 million.
The SE 192nd
project would replace overhead lines that span the
Fisher’s Rock Quarry and would be adjacent to the
extension of SE 192nd avenue to the interchange
connection with Highway 14.

today is expected to approve a design contract for a
traffic circle at the intersection of 6th and Esther
Streets.
The proposed
contract, not to exceed $248,678, would be with the
Vancouver engineering firm, Hopper, Dennis, Jellison,
Inc.
