Winter weather woes won’t stop
In Clark
County and along the Columbia River Gorge,
temperatures have stayed below freezing through most
of today, with little change improvement in road
conditions.
Schools and
most governmental offices remained closed, as did
many businesses.
Fallen trees
and tree limbs have been the main hazards for Clark
Public Utilities' customers, about 30,000 of whom
have been affected over the past 72 hours.
By Thursday
afternoon about 7,500 customers were without power,
according to utility spokesperson
Mick Shutt,
who said that most customers’ power was off from a
matter of minutes to several hours. He said Thursday
utility crews augmented by ten contract crews were
working around the clock to restore service. The
worst of the problems occurred this morning, he
said.
Cancellation
of garbage recycling and yard debris collections in
rural Clark County, Vancouver, Battle Ground, La
Center, Ridgefield and Yacolt that began Tuesday is
expected to continue through Friday.
Anita Largent,
Clark County Solid Waste manager, says that all
affected customers may double up amounts for
collection on their next regularly scheduled days.

Thirteen new
homes will be shown during the 17-day Parade of
Homes offered by the Building Industry Association
of Clark County during 2004 run from Friday, July 9,
to Sunday, July 25.
The view home
sites are in Granite Highlands, Washougal,
overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.
Curbside
recycling to accept motor oil
Clark County
is now accepting motor oil and antifreeze in its
curbside recycling program and that service is
available to all single-family residences.
To be
accepted the recycling program, both products must
be stored in one-gallon milk jugs and sealed with a
screw cap.
Other kinds
of hazardous household waste must be taken to
recycling centers. For locations of recycling
centers and additional hazardous waste information,
call 397-6116,

People
Terry “Tim” Parsley
has been appointed to the Clark County Skills
Center Foundation board of directors. Parsley, who
retired from the Evergreen School District in 2002
after 21 years with the district, and her husband,
Jim, former
Vancouver School District Superintendent, own an
educational consulting business.
