Electric
service being restored, natural gas usage hit record
levels, Highway 14 reopens
Winter’s
angry feet were retreating Friday as power to Clark
Public Utilities’ customers was being restored,
roads were reopening and NW Natural reported record
natural gas consumption last Monday of 8.8 million
therms. The average residential use during a cold
month is 120 therms.
Highway 14
between Washougal and the Bridge of the Gods was
reopened to passenger vehicles with chains and under
10,000 pounds Friday afternoon.
Widespread
Comcast cable outages were reported, and the company
is expected to continue working Saturday to restore
service.
The slow
thaw, however, contributed to numbers of traffic
mishaps as more motorists tried to get to and from
work on still slippery streets and interchanges.
Weather
people are now predicting slowly warming
temperatures.

Letter to
the Editor:
I don’t have to tell you that it
has been a wild and crazy week! I just wanted to
take this opportunity to extend sincere and
heartfelt THANKS to our incredible Operations,
Police and Fire crews who did, and are still doing,
super work to keep our streets clear and our
community safe. Although our crews are always well
prepared, every weather situation presents different
challenges. Frankly, I don’t know that anyone could
have prepared for the challenges this recent storm
and the icy aftermath gave us. But I am proud, and I
am impressed with how quickly and diligently our
team responded to secure the safety of our
community. Our crews did an outstanding job plowing,
sanding, removing snow, clearing downed trees,
closing streets and responding to frozen or burst
pipes. While most of us were trying to stay out of
the mess, our crews were in the thick of it all
keeping busy morning, noon and night and hustling to
keep pace with whatever Mother Nature gave them.
They are a group of dedicated individuals who don’t
often get the credit or recognition they deserve.
Please join me in thanking our outstanding,
hard-working team!
