named Community
Foundation development officer
Renee Branch
has been named to the new position of development officer for the
Community Foundation of Southwest Washington, executive director
Nancy Sourek announced this
week.
Branch, who is
the wife of Wayne Branch,
recently appointed president of Clark College, had most recently
been a development officer for Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.
She has had extensive experience as a commercial banker and holds a
masters degree from Drexel University, Philadelphia.
The Community
Foundation is celebrating its 20th birthday this year and currently
manages over $38 million for a wide variety of local charitable
organizations.
Five
Outstanding Clark College Alumni named, will receive awards in June
The Clark
College Alumni Association has announced five winners of the
association’s Outstanding Alumni Awards for 2004 and will make
presentations at an annual membership meeting in June.
Selected for
2004 are the following:
Steve Dearborn attended Clark
in 1984. (Posthumous). Dearborn was a life-long resident of Clark
County. He played a major role in the development of Identity Clark
County and Leadership Clark County. He was the 1991 recipient of the
George C. Marshall Leadership Award. Dearborn was the executive
director of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust’s
Celebrate Freedom, and he had been vice president of government
affairs for the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.
Harley Hall, class of 1957.
(Posthumous). A Navy commander, Hall on Jan. 27, 1973, was the last
American fighter pilot shot down in the Vietnam War, and the last
American casualty of that war. Hall had been a member of the Navy’s
Blue Angel Demonstration Team and was a candidate for the U.S.
Astronaut Program. In 1970 he was named one of the nation’s
Outstanding Young Men.
Betty Mage, class of 1966.
Mage served as a member of the college board of trustees for 21
years until retiring in 1978. She was board chair for six years.
Mage was also president of the state Community College Trustees
Association. She is a past member of the Vancouver Housing Authority
board and was the founding director of the Health and Welfare
Planning Council of Clark County.
Daniel Morasch, class of
1957. Morasch was an advocate for youth sports. He founded the Clark
County Catholic Youth Organization Football League and coached
football and basketball for the league for 20 years. He earned the
CYO Amateur Coach Award in 1999. Morasch also served on the boards
of the Clark College Foundation, Clark College Alumni Foundation and
the Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation.
Tony Bacon, class of 1948. A
Vancouver native, Bacon is publisher of the
Daily Insider. He is a
member of the Washington State University Vancouver Advisory
Council, the Clark County Skills Center Foundation Board, and the
Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Committee. Bacon is a past member of
Identity Clark County, Southwest Washington Forward Thrust, and
Northwest Harvest South.
Volunteers
needed for Salmon Creek project
Clark Public
Utilities is seeking volunteers for a half-day of tree and shrub
planting along the banks of Salmon Creek Saturday, Feb. 21.
Since the
utility’s Salmon Creek Enhancement Project began in 1992, volunteers
working with the utility have planted over 550,000 trees along the
stream sides. The program was undertaken to improve water quality
and restore salmon habitat in the Salmon Creek basis, the major
source of water for 26,000 utility water customers.
