Dayton Duncan, who
presents a program about the historic Lewis and Clark decision
to take a vote on where to spend the winter of 2005, will be
available to sign his book
Scenes of Visionary Enchantment, Reflections on Lewis and Clark
at a 6-to-7 p.m. reception, today, in the George C.
Marshall House on Officers Row.
The reception, a fund
raiser for the Vancouver-Clark County Lewis and Clark Committee,
precedes the 7:30 p.m. free program in Clark College’s Gaiser

National reputation
puts Clark
County in elite company
Clark County, along with
Fairfax County, Va., Montgomery County, Md., Portland, Seattle,
Phoenix, San Diego and Sunnyvale, has been selected for a survey
of development and building permitting practices by the King
County Auditor’s Office, reports Clark County administrator
Bill Barron..
The selections were based
on national reputations for progressive permitting practices,
which include customer service, documented timeliness criteria,
accessible permit information, and cost monitoring.
Girder installation on
Highway 500 to night traffic beginning Wednesday, March 31
While 45 girders are
being installed this week on the Highway 500 bridge under
construction over NE 112th Avenue and Gher Road, access traffic
will be curtailed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through
Friday.
Traffic lanes on Highway
500 and on Gher Road will remain open in both directions,
however.
The new bridge, part of
the $26.7 million interchange, is expected to be completed this
fall, and the entire interchange is to be operational in the
summer of 2005.

The Easter bunny, which
will make an appearance at the Vancouver Easter egg hunt
Saturday, April 10, needs assistance, according to bunny
spokesperson Amy Blankenship.
Volunteers are needed to
stuff eggs Sunday, April 4, and to provide staffing on April 10.

A reception for retiring
Pearson Field airport manager
Ernie Vande Zande is 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, in
City Hall. In addition to his having been manager of Pearson
Field for the past 14, years, Vande Zande established the Vande
Zande Endowment Fund at the YWCA of Clark County, which provides
education and training to help women from abusive relationships
get their lives back on track.
