Evergreen High School
captures top honors in New York City Heritage Choir Festival
Evergreen High School was
awarded the top honor—the Choral Sweepstakes Award, at the New
York City Heritage Choir Festival, which concluded last week.
The school’s Men’s Choir
and Chamber Singers finished in first place, the Women’s Choir
and Chamber Choir finished in second place. The Men’s and
Women’s Choir and Chamber Singers earned Adjucator’s Awards.
The choirs were directed
by Evergreen music director Mike
Iverson. Thirty-one choirs from the United States, Canada
and Guam competed.
Comcast’s annual
Telecommunications Commission review next week
The City/County
Telecommunications Commission will conduct its annual review of
Comcast Cable’s performance at its 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 7
meeting, in City Hall. The review and meeting will be cablecast
live on CVTV channel 23.
Call-in testimony will be
accepted between 7:20 and 8 p.m., according to
Fred Bateman, commission
chair. Written testimony will be accepted through Friday, April
23.

15-year franchise in 1997 to provide cable television in Clark
County
Kaiser Permanente
offering free
swimming for not watching television
As part of its effort to
help eliminate obesity, Kaiser Permanente is inviting Clark and
Skamania County residents to give up television from 6:30 to
8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, and instead go to the Jim Parsley
Center Swimming Pool, 2901 Falk Road, for a free swim.
Kaiser is paying for the
free swimming night, according to Kaiser Permanente’s chief of
pediatrics Rasjad Lints,
who is a Vancouver resident.
The event is during
National TV Turnoff Week. “Just show up at the pool for free
admission,” Lints says.
More than 150 competing
in annual Challenge Games at Skyview gymnasium Thursday
More than 150 entrants
are expected for the annual Challenge Games of Clark County
competition from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in the
gymnasium of Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th Street.
Competitors are K-12
students from the Battle Ground, Camas, Evergreen, Ridgefield
and Vancouver School Districts and the state Schools for the
Blind and Deaf.
There is no charge for
spectators for the games, formerly known as the Vancouver Games
for the Physically Challenged.
Free lecture on foot
care being offered by Southwest Washington Medical Center
As part of its annual
Passport to Wellness walking events, Southwest Washington
Medical Center is offering a series of free lectures on the care
of and safe use of feet.
The first lecture, “Are
These Feet Made for Walking?” by podiatrist
Douglas Rutan, is at 6
p.m. Thursday, April 1, in the medical center’s Health Education
Center on NE 92nd Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard.
Free foot screenings will
be offered before and after the education session.
Three
physicians earn SWMC honors
Otis Burris,
C. H. Klingenmaier and
Thomas Reis have earned
Southwest Washington Medical Center’s first Medical Staff Honor
Awards for Excellence.
Reis, who is also a
Portland Trail Blazer team physician, was cited for his
commitment to continuing education and for his work with both
the local AIDS Task Force and tobacco cessation program.
Klingenmaier, chair of
the anesthesia department and past medical staff president, was
cited for his work in modernizing treatment and care in the
intensive care unit.
Burris, a retired medical
staff president, is chair of the Free Clinic of Southwest
Washington.
