Grant House opening for viands and libations


The Restaurant at the Historic Reserve
The Club at the Historic Reserve, and
Commanders Whiskey and Wine Bar

The first public step toward the multi-million dollar renovation of the western half of Vancouver Barracks begins with the 4 p.m. Friday, April 30, opening of The Restaurant at the Historic Reserve, in the Grant House on Officers Row.

Dinner in the restaurant during a two-day grand opening continues through 10 p.m. Friday, and again from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 1.

Arch Miller’s International Air Academy project is right on schedule with this opening, to be followed by the opening of the Club at the Historic Reserve, upstairs in the Grant House, in May.

The restaurant offers Pacific Northwest cuisine; the bar 220 Northwest and California wines.

Reservations which are recommended, can be made by calling general manager Seaberg Einarsson, 906-1101.

WSU Vancouver students win
Student Entrepreneur Awards

Washington State University Vancouver students Elizabeth Palma and Eli Newton last week were selected as recipients of the 2004 Pacific Northwest Student Entrepreneur Awards for exceptional entrepreneurial skill and creativity. Palma and Newton were named first place winner and first runner-up.

Palma and her husband, William, are co-owners of Palmabriz Industries, Inc., which sells used, rebuilt and new industrial food processing machinery. William Palma is a student at Clark College but will attend WSU Vancouver this fall.

Newton is the owner of Braganza Pearl Tea, in the food court at Clackamas Towne Center.

The first place award includes $5,000; the runner-up award includes $1,000. The awards, which were created in 1988 by St. Louis University’s Entrepreneurship Center, are administered in the Pacific Northwest by Seattle University.

Columbia Springs Environmental
Education Center training guides

A training session for volunteer guides for the Columbia River Environmental Education Center is 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 27, at the center, 12208 SE Evergreen Highway.

Guides are expected to donate up to six hours a month of volunteer service by providing the public with environmental education at the fish hatchery and the protected outdoor urban setting.
