HP’s Carly Fiorina to
talk about corporate citizenship at
Enterprise
Luncheon in June
Carly Fiorina,
Hewlett Packard’s CEO since 1999, will discuss corporate
citizenship at a special June luncheon in Vancouver, sponsored
by the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Columbia River
Economic Development Council, Identity Clark County and the
Columbian.
Fiorina will also
discuss opportunities for innovation and excellence at the
luncheon, billed as Excellence in Enterprise. It will be at
noon, Tuesday, June 22, in the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay.
Fiorina will spend most
of the day at the Hewlett-Packard facility, which, with 1,700
employees, is Clark County’s largest private employer.
HP, 142,000 workers
worldwide, is number 14 on the
Fortune 500 list and, last year, had revenues of over $73
billion.
Fiorina, a Stanford
graduate, also has masters degrees from the University of
Maryland and M.I.T. She is an honorary fellow at the London
Business school and, last year, received the 2003 Seeds of Hope

Cowlitz Tribe holding
informational
meeting in La Center Thursday
Cowlitz Tribal officials
have scheduled a 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, meeting in the La
Center Community Center, 1000 E 4th Street, to answer questions
and provide information on their application for trust status of
152 acres near the La Center junction. Also up for discussion is
the environmental assessment.
The tribe’s application
is before the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The City of La Center,
dependent largely for tax revenue from licensed card rooms,
opposes the trust land status, fearing that competition from an
Indian gambling casino could reduce city taxes by as much as 60
percent.
Rosemere Neighborhood
Association
sets water legacy event in Hazel Dell
Although by city council
action earlier this year the Rosemere Neighborhood Association
no longer represents the Rosemere neighborhood as an official
organization, its members continue to hold meetings; and, from 7
to 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, the organization will present a water
legacy event in the Hazel Dell Grange, 7509 NE Hazel Dell
Avenue.
The association has long
been a critic of the city’s policy on conversion of septic tanks
to city sewer service in the Rosemere area through which Burnt
Bridge Creek drains.
Friday’s program, in
addition to live music and free refreshments, includes
presentations on local water quality issues by
Thom McConathy, Clark
County Natural Resource Council, and
Carl Addy, Addy Lab.
Informational exhibits
and displays from various governmental and environmental
organizations will also be part of the event.
The event, the first in a
series, according to spokesperson
Karen Axell, is free.
