Ray Hickey Hospice House
opens Monday to 16 patients
When the Ray Hickey
Hospice House, 2112 Mill Plain Boulevard, the first inpatient
hospice center in southern Washington opens Monday, May 24, 16
of the 20 private rooms will be occupied by end-of-life
patients.
The $3 million dollar
structure dedicated Thursday was financed entirely by private
funding through a campaign by the Southwest Washington Medical
Center Foundation.
Ray Hickey, former owner
and president of Tidewater Barge, was the major contributor.
State Transportation
Commission to talk SW transportation needs in Vancouver next
week
In a rare public meeting
in Vancouver, the state Transportation Commission will meet with
local officials at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, in the Heathman
Lodge.
Transportation and
freight movement across and along the Columbia River will be the
principal subject matter.

Orchestra features 100 voices, four soloists: Beethoven’s
Ode to Joy

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Beethoven’s 9th
symphony, Ode to Joy,
in two concerts this weekend.
Four soloists and a
100-voice chorus will join the orchestra in this season finale
in the concert hall at Skyview High School,1300 NW 139th Street,
at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, and at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 23. An
hour of musical conversations will be presented prior to the
Saturday afternoon concert.
Tickets may be bought at
the door. General admission is $22; reserved seats, $35;
seniors, $17; and students, $15.
Two-day festival at
Water Resources Education Center celebrates sturgeon
A two-day Sturgeon
Festival and “Down by the Riverside” event at the Water
Resources Education Center this weekend focuses on Columbia
River fish and vegetation.
Volunteers are asked to
join Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism crews clean up and remove
invasive plant species from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22.
Interactive displays and
exhibits will be available to the public in the center from noon
to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23.

Rec applications
Applications for a
position on the 11-member Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation
