John Wiesman to head Health Department
John M. Wiesman, manager
of the Prevention Division for Seattle & King County Public
Health, has been appointed director of the Clark County Health
Department.
Wiesman succeeds
Kay Koontz, who is
retiring at the end of July. Koontz had been director of the
Southwest Washington Health District for several years before it
was subsumed by Clark County.
The county Health
Department has an annual budget of $14 million and 158
employees.
Wiesman, a graduate of
Lawrence University, holds a masters degree in public health
from Yale University. Wiesman has prior experience with the
University of Washington School of Public Health and the
Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

Betty Sue Morris
making candidacy for reelection as county commissioner official
Democratic Clark County
commissioner Betty Sue Morris,
current chair of the board of commissioners, Thursday formally
announced she is a candidate for reelection to a third term.
Morris, a former 18th
District state representative, thus far has no opposition in the
primary, which is Sept. 14. However, two Republicans have said
they intend to run, Tom Mielke,
18th District state representative, and
Tom Armstrong, Battle
Ground.
