Roger Qualman elected chair of Greater Vancouver Chamber
of Commerce
Roger Qualman, chief of Vancouver's Norris Beggs
Simpson office, has been elected chair of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of
Commerce. Qualman will succeed Beth Quartarolo, Hewlett-Packard, when
new officers are installed during the chamber's 114th annual dinner, Thursday,
Sept. 16, at the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay.
Qualman had been chair-elect of the over 1,200-member civic
and business organization.
Other officers who will guide the chamber during the
2004-2005 year are Mark Brandon, First Independent Bank, chair-elect;
Carol Keljo, Security Signs, vice chair; Lisa Goecke, Perkins &
Company, secretary- treasurer.
New board members are Dellann Redjou, Smokey's Pizza,
Dave Horowitz, David A. Horowitz CPA, and Ramona Lupo, Ramona's
Baskets Bearing Gifts.
Brady Horenstein named to Washington State
University Board of Regents
Brady Horenstein, 2001 graduate of Skyview High
School, has been appointed by Gov. Gary Locke as student member of
the Board of Regents for Washington State University.
Horenstein, a WSU senior majoring in political science, is the
son of Todd and Dru Horenstein, Vancouver.
Horenstein is a former president of the Washington State
Student Lobby, served as an Associated Students of WSU senator, and was director
of legislative affairs for ASWSU.
The former Eagle Scout is a member of a variety of honors
organizations, including the President's Honor Role, the National Residence Hall
Honorary and Phi Sigma Alpha, a national political science honor society.
Horenstein plans to attend law school.
Fort Vancouver featured on national Travel
Channel "Road Trip," gets help from CVTV
Fort Vancouver, and in particular the blacksmith
shop at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Monument is one of a dozen
locations featured on an hour-long Travel Channel "Road Trip," to be aired at 2
p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, on channel 65.
The three-day journey throughout the northwest, beginning in
Seattle and ending in Portland, was filmed by Pangolin Pictures, with an assist
from CVTV crews, which were on hand to work with the film company at the
blacksmith shop in the Fort and in Esther Short Park.
The "Road Trip" also includes segments shot in Seattle, at Mt.
St. Helens, the old Columbia River Highway, Florence, Canon Beach, McMinnville
and Portland's Chinese Garden.
Fair goers to get free bus service
People's Community Credit Union is underwriting
the cost of providing free bus transportation to and from the 2004 Clark County
Fair, Friday, Aug. 6, through Sunday, Aug. 15, according to Lynn Griffith,
C-TRAN executive director.
In addition, there will be free entertainment and prizes
given on random buses during the ten-day fair.
Free transportation will be available between the fair
grounds and the 7th Street Transit Center, Fisher's Landing, Vancouver Mall,
Battle Ground Park & Ride, and Salmon Creek Park & Ride.
Two contested races in 17th Legislative
District so far
In addition to the Republican face-off for
Position 1 in the 17th Legislative District, between former State Rep. Jim
Dunn, and Paul Harris, the Democrats have two candidates, Pat
Campbell and Ilene Ferrell, for the same position.
Washington State Patrolman Roy Rhine has
filed as a Republican candidate for position 2 in the 17th District. The post is
currently held by Deb Wallace, who has said she will be a candidate for
re-election.
