Vancouver’s
International Air Academy celebrates 25th Anniversary, turns into air and
hospitality academy
The International Air Academy, founded by Arch
Miller in 1979, marks its 25th year this month by making a change in its
name and symbol to reflect its expansion into the hospitality education arena.
The International Air and Hospitality Academy will
maintain its headquarters and airline industry students campus at Mill Plain
Boulevard and Grand Avenue.
Culinary arts and hospitality management students will be
trained in facilities being completed in Vancouver Barracks.
The academy was bought by Miller’s daughters
Lynn Rullman and
Suzy Taylor, who are co-presidents of
the institution.
Creedence Clearwater Revisited headlines tonight at the fairgrounds
The rock-and-roll group
Creedence Clearwater Revisited headlines entertainment at the Clark
County Fair tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Columbian Concert Stage. Reserved
tickets are $18 each. Grandstand seating is free with fair admission.
The 136th annual Clark County Fair continues through
Sunday, Aug. 15.
Magician Mark Yusuik
performs at 6 p.m. this evening at the Comcast Plaza Stage. Singer
Walter Manahan performs a 7 p.m. at the
KKAD Community Stage. Entertainment is free throughout at the fair at these two
stages.
Adult admission is $8. Parking is $5. C-TRAN and Peoples
Community Credit Union are providing free transportation to and from the fair
from most park-and-ride and transit center locations.
Governor appoints Gayle Rothrock
to state hearings board
Gayle Rothrock,
former member of the Columbia River Gorge Commission, and the state Energy
Facilities Site Evaluation Council, has been appointed to the Western Washington
Growth Management Hearings Board by Gov. Gary
Locke.
Rothrock, who is a member of the Washington Water Trust
board of trustees, will receive a salary of $88,145. Her term ends June 30,
2006.
CREDC
offers workshop on
how to get government work
A workshop to help businesses sell products and services
to governmental agencies is being offered by the Columbia River Economic
Development Council Saturday, Sept. 18, in CREDC facilities at 1101 Broadway.
CREDC operates the Procurement Technical Assistance
Center for Clark, Cowlitz, Kilckitat and Skamania Counties. Last year, CREDC
helped businesses obtain over $89 million in government contracts.

Adoptable pet animals highlight of 3rd
annual Community Companion Pet Fair
Attendees at the 3rd annual Community Companion Pet Fair
in Esther Short Park Sunday will have an opportunity to adopt a wide variety of
pet animals, ranging from dogs and cats to rabbits and rats. The free fair is
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Billed as a event for the entire family, the pet fair
features agility and intelligence tests for pets. In addition, a pet psychic
will be on hand. Fair organizers, the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society,
headquartered in Washougal, are also collecting signatures on a petition to
require the state Department of Licensing to issue automobile license plates,
funds from which would benefit humane society shelters.

who has a perfect safety record over the past 12 years as a school bus driver in
the Evergreen School District, was named 2004 driver of the year by the state
Association for Pupil Transportation. gg
Stephanie Fowler and
Kirsten Wright, Wy’east Middle School
students, placed fourth among 104 groups of students during National History Day
competition in Washington, D.C., recently. Their project was the history of
Braille.
