Vancouver police investigating
early morning shooting
Vancouver police are investigating a shooting at 3:02 a.m. this
morning outside the Canyon Court Apartments, 2615 Neals Lane, that left
Juan Manuel Barbosza, 23, in critical
condition at Southwest Washington Medical Center with a gunshot in the abdomen,
and slightly injured Jennifer Ann O’Neil,
21, who was treated and released from the hospital.
A stray shot that hit an adjacent apartment where three
children under the age of 5 were sleeping, injured a pet parakeet.
CREDC sets Lean Manufacturing Workshop
A workshop to help manufacturers achieve maximum
production is being sponsored by the Columbia River Economic Development Council
Friday, Sept. 24, reports Deb Wallace,
CREDC director of Business Expansion.
The Lean Manufacturing Workshop will aid manufacturers in
reducing cycle time, improving productivity, improving cash flow, reducing
inventory and increasing response time, according to Wallace.
The fee, which includes lunch and course materials, is
$149 per person for employees of companies located in Clark County, and $224 for
employees of companies located outside the county.

County Mental Health Advisory
Board seeking members
Members are being sought for the Clark County Mental
Health Advisory Board, according to spokesperson
Midge Burmaster.
The requirements are that prospective board members have
either a working knowledge of, or a strong interest in learning about issues
related to mental health.
Deadline for submitting letters of interest is Monday,

Maps showing proposed changes
in county growth plan on view
Maps showing changes being proposed for the Clark County
Growth Management Plan will be on view from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the lobby of
the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street. The maps will also be on
display between 8:30 and 10 a.m. tomorrow, Aug. 17, in the sixth floor lobby of
the Public Service Center, prior to a hearing on the issue by county
commissioners that begins at 10 a.m.
YWCA collecting
back-to-school-supplies for children in their shelters
School supplies for school-age children in YWCA of Clark
County shelters are being sought, according to spokesperson
Kathy Deschner. In particular need are
backpacks, college rule notebook paper, colored pencils, glue sticks, scissors,
school boxes, three-ring binders, protractors, and cash donations.
Donations will be accepted at the YWCA office, 3609 Main
Street the Homestreet Bank, 2100 SE 164th Avenue, Suite F104, and at 4 to 9 p.m.
at the Wednesday, Aug. 18, Pearson Air Museum Cruz-In at Pearson Field.
Clark College alumni getting
additional Seahawks tickets
Additional tickets for the Seattle Seahawks 1 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 26, game with the San Francisco 49ers at Qwest Field, Seattle, are
available, reports director of Clark College Alumni Relations
Cheri Cole. The alumni association
provides transportation from Clark College to the game and back, plus game
tickets for $70 per alumni member; $75, non-alumni member.
Cole says tickets must be reserved by Thursday, Aug. 19.

Red Cross seeks volunteers,
offers orientation meetings
A series of orientation meetings for prospective
volunteers for the Southwest Washington Chapter of the American Red Cross
includes a noon-to-1 p.m. session Tuesday, Aug. 17, in the Red Cross office,
3114 Fourth Plain Boulevard. Additional orientation sessions are at 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 25, Thursday, Sept. 9, and Monday, Sept. 20. A noon session is
scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 15.
Volunteer opportunities include Disaster Action Teams,
First Aid and CPR instructors, and volunteer positions for assisting at blood
