Square for new store on NE 160th Avenue
Wild Oats Natures Marketplace is
closing its 8024 NE Mill Plain, Garrison Square location on Saturday, Sept. 25,
and reopening in a brand new building at 815 SE 160th Ave. Wednesday, Sept. 29.
The new store will be slightly larger than the former location.
Wilds Oats is hiring some new
employees for the new store, according to store director

to greet viewers of 2004 Parade of Homes
The 2004 Riverview Community Bank
Parade of Homes opens at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Granite Highlands in
Washougal, where, according to Jerry Clark,
vice president of the Building Industry Association of Clark County and event
chair, “you’ll see 180-degree views from homes in this year’s parade.”
Twelve homes, ranging in price from
$510,000 to $889,900, will be shown during the 17-day run that concludes Sunday,
Sept. 19. Show hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Admission is $12; $6 for
children 6 to 12. Children under 6 are free. Neither strollers nor large-frame
backpacks are permitted. For further information, go to

Barbara Kerr named director of
media relations at Clark College
Barbara Kerr, most recently director of communications for Sisters of St.
Mary of Oregon, has been appointed director of media relations for Clark
College, it was announced today by college president
Wayne Branch.
Kerr will serve as a member of the
college executive cabinet and will report directly to the president. She is a
former communications manager for the Internal Revenue Service, San Francisco.
Kerr earned a bachelor of science degree from Ithaca College.
Seven nominees to compete for 2004
Marshall Public Leadership Award
Seven Clark County residents have been
selected to compete for the 2004 Gen. George C. Marshall Public Leadership
Award, which is given annually to a young adult who best represents the
qualities for which Marshall stood: leadership, community service, vision,
compassion, and honor.
The award is one of the community’s
Celebrate Freedom programs of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust and
was created in cooperation with the Marshall Foundation of Lexington, Va.
Nominees for the 2004 award are the
following:
Marjan
Coester, director of Student Life, Clark College. Coester is a committee
member for the state Multicultural Student Services Directors Council, the state
Students of Color Conference, the National Association of Student Personnel
Administrators, and the State Staff Training for Technical and Community
Colleges. She is also a volunteer for the YWCA of Clark County’s Independent
Living Skills program.
Eric
Holmes, Battle Ground city manager. Holmes is also a member of the Battle
Ground Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, International City
Managers Association and the state City Managers Association. He is affiliated
with the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.
Elizabeth Houston, program coordinator for the Clark County Youth
Commission. Houston serves on the Youth Suicide Prevention Plan Implementation
Team,. African American Youth Achievement Awards Committee, and the SpringFest
Coordinating Committee. She is also a national trainer for the Prudential Youth
Leadership Council, and is a volunteer for the Vancouver Youth Council, Minority
Youth Leadership Council, PeaceJam, 4-H, and Junior Achievement.
Jennifer Kampsula, attorney with Kell, Alterman & Runstein. Kampsula is a
member of the board of the American Cancer Society, both the Washington and
Oregon State Trial Lawyers Association, the Oregon State Bar, and Association of
Trial Lawyers of America. She is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society,
Identity Clark County, SWIFT Auction, Miss Washington Scholarship Program and
the Rose Festival.
Christopher McKinney, visual arts teacher for the Vancouver School of
Arts and Academics. McKinney serves as a teacher, artist and grant writer for
the North Bank Community Project, a mentor for the Vancouver School District New
Teacher Orientation, and an advisor for the Vancouver School District High
Octane Auto Club. He is also an advisor on the Gallery Committee for the
Vancouver School of Arts and Academics.
David
Parker, journeyman electrician for E.C. Company. Parker is a board member
of the Felida Neighborhood Association, Clark County Economic Development
Council Revolving Funds Committee, SHARE, and is a member of the Center for the
Arts Public Relations Committee. He is also active in the Democratic Party,
Lions Club, and the Felida Park Project.
Anne
Sturdevant, coordinator for the Evergreen Public Schools Home Choice
Academy. Sturdevant is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, Delta Epsilon Sigma, and the
Northwest Neighborhood Association. She is also a volunteer for PeaceJam, the
Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Club of America, and the Avon Walk for Breast
Cancer.
People
C-TRAN's
Dan Gufrey, paratransit supervisor, and
Michael Felts and Kevin Kearney,
both coach technicians, have been named to the Washington State Department of
Transportation’s Wall of Fame. The Wall of Fame recognizes exemplary transit
employees. Gufrey was recognized for his design and implementation of the C-TRAN
dial-a-ride eastside service called the Connector. Gufrey was 2003 C-TRAN
Employee-of-the-Year. Felts and Kearney were recognized for their having
designed and painted C-TRAN’s patriotic bus, introduced last year during the
annual Veterans Day parade.
