Don Philip to head Southwest Washington
Medical Center Heart and Vascular Center
Don
Philip, formerly administrator and CEO of Northwest Surgical Associates,
Portland, has joined Southwest Washington Medical Center as administrative
director of Heart and Vascular Services, SWMC chief medical officer
Gil Rodriguez announced today.
Northwest Surgical Associates is one
of the region’s top cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgery groups, with five
sites in Oregon and Washington, and whose surgeons support SWMC’s Heart and
Vascular Center, performing open-heart surgery and other cardiovascular
procedures.
Other heart specialty organizations
working with SWMC are Southwest Washington Cardiology, Vancouver Clinic
Cardiology, and Columbia Imaging. Two new heart surgery suites, as well as five
new cardiac catheterization laboratories, are planned as part of the medical
center’s patient tower expansion project scheduled for completion in December
2006.
Philip, a Catholic deacon, is a fellow
of the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and president-elect of
the Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology Assembly of the Medical Group Management
Association.
Vancouver Sausage Fest
occupies coming weekend
Johnny
Limbo and the Lugnuts headline the 2004 Vancouver Sausage Fest with
a 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, show in the fest beer garden on the St. Joseph Parish
grounds at 400 S Andresen Road. There is a $7 cover charge.
The three-day annual fall event begins
with a dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, followed by opening ceremonies at 7
p.m. at the main outdoor stage. The sausage fest, replete with food, and arts
and crafts booths, includes a carnival and midway, and
entertainment each day. Admission is free.

Lewis and Clark committee
seeking event coordinator
The Vancouver-Clark County Lewis and
Clark Bicentennial Committee is seeking a part-time event and activities
coordinator, reports committee project coordinator
Arlene Johnson.
The salary budgeted for the job is
$9,000. Qualifications include experience in planning public meetings,
recruiting volunteers, working with public-private partnerships, and planning
fundraisers.
Already in the works are three public
meetings this fall and a fund raising dinner in November.

has been named dental service business leader
for Kaiser Permanente’s dental program in Southwest Washington and Oregon. Marko
most recently was a vice president and regional manager for Aetna, where she
managed dental networks and dental sales. Kaiser has
165,000 dental plan members.
Dick Perkins
Dick
Perkins has been promoted to senior vice president and manager of the
Commercial Real Estate Department of First Independent Bank. Perkins, who has
been with First Independent Bank since January 2003, has been involved with
commercial real estate for the past 24 years. A graduate of Humboldt State
University, he holds a masters degree in urban planning from the University of
Oregon.
Bunco party to raise seed
money for 2004 Holiday Shop
A bunco party at 7 p.m. Friday,
Sept. 10, in Memories on Main Street, 1108 Main Street, will raise money for the
2004 Holiday Shop. The Holiday Shop, which helps support 21 nonprofit
organizations in Clark County, will open later this month, offering a wide range
of holiday gifts.
Bunco night is $20 per person,
says project chair Linda Glover, and includes dinner and beverages. For further
