Nitai Zori returns to open the Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra’s 2004-2005 season with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s
Violin Concerto at 3 p.m. Saturday and 7
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 and 10, in the Skyview High School Concert Hall, 1300 NE
139th Street.
The symphony orchestra will offer five
additional weekend concerts during the season that ends May 21 and 22.
Season tickets are available from $40
to $180. Single tickets are $15 and $35. An additional discount on ticket prices
is available to those who buy tickets by Thursday, Sept. 30, reports symphony
spokesperson Kelly O’Neill.

Bob McCall, former Vancouver
mayor, died Friday at 91
Robert
S. McCall died Friday at the age of 91. Mr. McCall was one of the first
Vancouver city council members elected after the city charter, which was changed
in 1952, created the present city manager form of government. Mr. McCall was
elected mayor in 1955.
A businessman and, later, real estate
broker, Mr. McCall was also a civic leader and member of Royal Oaks Country
Club.
Mr. McCall is survived by his wife of
66 years, Mildred; a daughter,
Jill Walton, Vancouver, and a son,
Scott, Scottsdale, Ariz.; four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private service was held.

cast of school superintendents

J. A.
Jance, author of the J. P. Beaumont and Joanna Brady Mystery Series, is
the featured speaker at the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation Dinner,
Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Hoop, 7250 NE 41st Street.
The $40-per-person event opens at 6

Pearson Air Museum free
on Alexander Pearson Day
Admission to the Pearson Air Museum is
free Saturday, Sept. 25, which is Alexander Pearson Day, commemorating the U.S.
Army test pilot for whom Pearson Field was named in 1925.
Special exhibits for the event, which
is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., are five Stearman bi-planes, which were restored by
the Fern Prairie Air Force, Grove Field, Camas, and a T-6 racing airplane, which
just participated in the 2004 Reno Air Races.
Pearson was a native of Portland and a
graduate of the University of Oregon. Pearson Field is the oldest continually
operating airfield in the United States.
Program on adolescent suicide
offered Tuesday in Portland
A program entitled “Understanding
Adolescent Depression & Suicidality” is being presented by Providence Health
System’s Employee Assistance Program at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the
Kaiser Permanente Building, 500 NE Multnomah Street, Portland.
