Uptown Village offers holiday
shopping and wine tasting

Most Uptown Village shops are open every day, but on Saturday, Dec. 4, shoppers will find more holiday activities than usual, including wine tasting from 3 to 8 p.m.

Uptown Village is that area of Vancouver’s Main Street that is generally between McLoughlin and Fourth Plain Boulevards. The event is a fundraiser for the village. Collectable Holiday Stroll buttons will be available for $5 and will allow wearers to obtain discounts at 30 participating businesses.

For a $15 donation attendees will get the button for free and will be able to participate in the wine tasting of over 40 different wines.

Children’s activities, for which there is a $2 charge, begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m.

For further information, call Shannon Leigha, 735-9310.

Surgeons at SWMC offering
new cataract removal system

Surgeons at Southwest Medical Center’s Memorial Eye and Laser Center are among the first in the country to use the new Infiniti Vision System for cataract removal and lens replacement.

Richard Bernheimer, Vancouver Eye Care, reports that the Infinity system is a more flexible and efficient system for cataract removal. The new technology uses liquid to clear clouded lenses.

According to Bernheimer, the new system is an alternative to the current method of cataract removal that relies on ultrasound energy to break up clouded lenses.

The medical center’s Memorial Eye and Laser Center offers diagnostic systems to identify eye diseases and provides three operating surgery suites and three laser rooms.
