Clark Public Utilities has BPA
transmission hike covered, but market-based rates another story
Recent increases contemplated by Bonneville Power
Administration to increase transmission rates for power will have a small impact
on Clark Public Utilities, but not enough to cause rates to increase, Clark
officials say.
However, if a Bush Administration proposal requiring BPA
to adopt market-based rates were to become effective, the cost to Clark Public
Utilities customers could be as much as $25 million a year, according to utility
spokesperson Mick Shutt.
Shutt says that similar proposals have surfaced in past
years but nothing has come of them. Bonneville provides power at cost to its
northwest preference customers.
According to Shutt, the entire northwest congressional
delegation is opposed to the proposal.
Final Vancouver meeting of PDX
noise study is Wednesday
A report of the Portland International Airport Noise
Compatibility Study Committee, which will be concluding three years of meetings
this spring, will be given in at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Hudson’s Bay
High School, 1206 E Reserve Street.
Despite considerable pressure from Vancouver and Clark
County residents, very little appears to have been done to mitigate
proliferating airport noise issues on the north side of the Columbia River.
A formal public hearing by the Noise Compatibility Study
Committee will be held in the Port of Portland Commission Room, 121 NE Everett
Street, Portland, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9.
