Clark County grew by more
than 3 percent during 2005
Clark County’s most reliable gauge of population
growth—Clark Public Utilities’ new residential connections—showed the county
grew by 3.02 percent during 2004, adding 4,702 new family electrical hookups.
Records for December 2004 show that 504 residential
accounts were added. In December 2003, the utility added 439 new customers. The
rate of growth for 2003 was 2.65 percent.
At year’s end, Clark Public Utilities was serving 155,853
residential customers.
Caring Heart Awards announced
Eight individuals and three organizations have won Caring
Heart Awards for philanthropy and support to Innovative Services NW.

third annual Caring Heart Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 26, in the

Innovative Services is a five-agency organization, these
organizations being Vancouver Children’s Therapy Center, Encore Employment
Services, Kids Care, Encore Custodial Services and Caring Connections.
Mayor Royce Pollard to describe
Lewis and Clark activities Tuesday
Vancouver Mayor Royce
Pollard will discuss Lewis and Clark activities during a 6:30 p.m.
presentation in the O. O. Howard House on Officers Row.
Explorers Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery
spent three days in what is now Vancouver and nine elsewhere in Clark County
during 1805 and 1806.
Community commemorative projects include Fort Vancouver
Tapestry, Cathlapotle Plankhouse, the Confluence Project, Discovery Greenway
Trail, and the Captain William Clark Park at Cottonwood Beach in Washougal. The
National Park Service Lewis and Clark Trail exhibit will be in Vancouver and
Clark County next fall.
Telecommunications Commission to
review Comcast performance Wednesday
The City/County Cable Television Commission conducts its
annual performance review of the cable television supplier, Comcast, during its
regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in City Hall.
The commission meeting will be cablecast live, on CVTV,
channel 23, and the commission will accept call-in comments between 7:20 and 8
p.m., according to commission chair Fred Bateman.
The commission will accept written comments on Comcast’s performance through

Leadership Clark County
opening 2005-2006 class
Applications for the nine-month Leadership Clark County
class of 2005-2006, which begins in September, are being accepted, reports
executive director Kathryn Smith.
The leadership training course is open to all community
residents who have an interest in community affairs.
Participants come from both the private and public
sector, according to Smith. Enrollment is limited to 35 students.
Those who apply by April 1 can lock in the current
tuition rate, according to Smith. For further information, call Smith at
