Hilton to hire 200 prior
to June 1 grand opening

Hilton Hotels announced today that the Hilton Vancouver, the city’s “largest and most luxurious hotel, which opens Wednesday, June 1, will hire almost 200 new employees, according to spokesperson JJ Wills.

The Hilton will hold job fairs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, March 28, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 29. Both events will be in the Vancouvercenter Building just north of the Hilton adjacent to Esther Short Park.

“We are looking for enthusiastic people who have a passion for service and who have a great work ethic,” Wills says.

Openings range from housekeeping to cashiers, accounting clerks to concierges. An equal opportunity employer, the Hilton offers full-time benefits, 401K retirement, tuition reimbursement and travel benefits, according to Wills. For further information, go to www.vancouverwashington.hilton.com.

Local freight mobility gets attention
from state Transportation boss

Washington State Transportation Secretary Doug MacDonald joins local business and community leaders in a discussion of southwest Washington freight mobility from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 23, in the state Department of Transportation regional headquarters at 11018 NE 51st Circle, near Gher Road and Highway 500.

“Improving transportation infrastructure in southwest Washington and the state is vital to improving the local economy,” reports John McKibbin, president of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event.

“We are looking forward to providing input to secretary MacDonald and our elected officials on this important issue. From backups on the I-5 bridge to the unique needs of our local high-tech businesses, freight mobility has huge impacts on the ability of business to compete and expand,” McKibbin says.

McKibbin says there is no charge for the event and the public is welcome to attend, but space is limited and reservations are required. For further information, call 694-2588.

Camas school board interviewing
four candidates for superintendent

The Camas School District board this evening interviews four candidates for the position of superintendent of the district. The interviews are public and begion at 7 p.m. in the Camas High School Theatre.

In the running are Mike Nerland, principal at Camas High School, Steven Smedley, superintendent of the Tenino School District and former principal in the Washougal School District, Susanne Walker, executive director of student services, Shoreline School District, and Suzanne Cusick, assistant superintendent, K-12 Operations, Hillsboro School District.

Treaty Trail exhibit at museum
continues through March 31

One hundred and fifty years ago Gov. Isaac Stevens, the first governor of the Washington Territory, and northwest Indian leaders set the stage for current relationships among native American nations and the United States, although not necessarily because the treaties were kept.

A traveling exhibit mounted by the Washington State Historical Society, the “Northwest Treaty Trail of 1854-56,” continues at the Clark County Historical Museum through Thursday, March 31.

The museum at 1511 Main Street, is open between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is charged to all except museum members. For further information, call Susan Tissot, 993-5679.

College of Naturopathic Medicine
sponsoring Women’s Health lectures

The first of a series of free lectures on women’s health, sponsored by the National College of Naturopathic Medicine is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in the Natural Health Center, 2220 SW 1st Avenue, Portland.

Clark County Chamber of Commerce
sets first golf tournament in May

The new Clark County Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring its first golf tournament, will use the proceeds to establish and maintain a yearly college scholarship, according to Daniel French, chair of the “Weeding Symposium and Golf Classic.”

Registration for the tournament, which begins at noon, Friday, May 20, at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course, Ridgefield, is $99 per person through Sunday, May 1. For further information, call 258-1181.
