Medical center
prepared
for up to 120 rail crash victims;
ten showed up and were released
Following a Amtrak passenger train derailment east of
Stevenson at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Southwest Washington Medical Center mobilized to
receive up to 120 patients.
The medical center, on alert, received ten of the
injured, one by life-flight helicopter, eight by ambulance and one by a private
vehicle. All ten were assessed, treated and released.
“We are pleased that no one was seriously injured,”
reported Jackie Brown, director of
Emergency Services at the medical center. “This was a test of our preparedness
to handle a mass casualty event. Our plan worked well and our staff was
mobilized and prepared to care for the number of patients in the initial
assessment.”
County commissioners to make
54 minor corrections to codes
Correcting "mental" clinics to read "medical" clinics is
among the 54 corrections and amendments to be made to Clark County codes by
county commissioners at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, as they make biennial
corrections to county laws.
Every two years the board of commissioners makes grammatical
corrections, takes care of written errors and makes minor clarifications and
changes in code language.
But some minor corrections may make significant changes in
what codes allow, such as creating flexibility within codes for setbacks within
commercial zones.
Other proposed changes would allow private schools in
commercial zones, permit feed and seed stores in commercial zones, and extend
the deadline for home business applications and compliance deadlines by three
months to Sept. 15, 2005.
