Howard Dean appearance
A few tickets remain for a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12,
presentation by Howard Dean, chair of the
Democratic National Committee, according to D.
Michael Heywood, editor of The Democrat,
the Clark County Democratic Party newsletter.
Dean, former governor of Vermont and former presidential
candidate, will be in Clark County most of the day meeting with a variety of
groups, including Clark County commissioners and the mayors of Vancouver and
Camas. His visit to the county is sponsored by the Associated Students of
Washington State University Vancouver and the Thomas Foley Institute for Public
Policy and Public Service.
Tickets for Dean’s public appearance in Skyview High
School, 1300 NW 139th Street, are $11 and are available through all Safeway
TicketsWest ticket centers, according to Heywood.
Vancouver Symphony presents violinists
at Borders Books Music Movies and Café
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents the violin
students of Laurita Jauregui
de Campero who will perform a variety of
violin pieces in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, in Borders Books
Music Movies and Café, 811 SE 160th Avenue.
Jauregui de Campero will also present an educational talk
on the Suzuki method of music education. In addition there will be chances to
win prizes and concert tickets during the evening, according to VSO spokesperson
Kelly O’Neill.
The symphony orchestra’s next performance is its annual
young artists concert Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17, in the concert hall
at Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th Street. For further information, call

Spectrum Petrographics
moves to Vancouver
Spectrum Petrographics Inc., a former Winston, Ore.,
company, which provides analyses of rock materials for industrial and
governmental clients, has moved to the Vancouver Business Park. The small
company currently has nine employees.
Company owners Mike
DePangher and Bob Vawdrey say they
chose to relocate to Clark County because of lower operating costs and quality
of life.
According to Bart
Phillips, executive director of the Columbia River Economic Development
Council, Clark County has been very successful in attracting closely held firms
because of the high quality of life, geographic location and pro-business tax
structure.
Southwest Washington Medical Center
opens Center for Weight Management
Southwest Washington Medical Center’s newly opened Weight
Management Center is offering a full service approach to weight loss, according
to center director Dee Sandquist.
Sandquist says the comprehensive program offers bariatric surgery, weight
management, outpatient nutrition, and diabetes and inpatient clinical nutrition
services.
The center is a collaborative service by the medical
center and Pacific Surgical Specialists.
A medically supervised weight management program will be
offered this fall.

the board of directors of Friends of Clark County, the nonprofit organization
dedicated to protecting southwest Washington’s quality of life.
