Salvador Brotons directing
Young Artists Concert

Salvador Brotons, music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the orchestra’s Young Artist Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in the Skyview High School Concert Hall, 1300 NW 139th Street.

Being showcased are two young musicians who won the symphony orchestra’s competition in February. Ely Karr,17, Vancouver, was chosen best in the violin category and Eloise Kim, 12, Tigard, won the piano competition. Karr will play the “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” by Camille Saint-Saens. Kim performs the first movement of Concerto in E Minor by Frederic Chopin. Also on the program are “Le Tombeau de Couperin” by Ravel and de Falla’s “The Three-Cornered Hat.”

Tickets are $23 and $35. For further information, call 735-7278.

Insider readers are eligible to compete for pairs of free tickets to the concerts by answering the following question: For how many years has the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra been presenting Young Artists Concerts? Answers are to be emailed to Kelly O’Neill, thevso@vancouversymphony.org.

Nighttime lane closures this
Week on I-205 134th Avenue

Motorists traveling I-205 northbound for the next two nights will have short detours at the NE 134th Street interchange between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. as highway crews work on the NE 20th Avenue bridge crossing.

Similar detours will be required of southbound motorists Thursday, April 14, and Friday, April 15.

Volunteers being sought for
hazardous materials study

A study to document the movement of hazardous materials truck traffic through Clark County will utilize field observation volunteers, according to De Ann Wilson, study manager for the Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

The information collected will be used by fire, law enforcement, emergency management and other public safety professionals for emergency planning, Wilson says.

Volunteers must be able to pass a basic security-clearance background check. Training begins Friday, April 22.

For further information, call 737-1911, extension 3962.

Studded tires gotta go

Beginning Tuesday, April 12, tickets will be issued to motorists who still have studded tires on their vehicles. The minimum fine is $101.

Studded tires are legal in Washington between November 1 to March 31, but the deadline was extended this year. Oregon will also be issuing citations for studded tire use.

Inadvertently the Insider last week misidentified the Pacific Die Casting representative on the Identity Clark County board of directors as Bob Byrd, when in fact that board member is Bill Byrd III.
