Karla Rowe named executive director
for Women's and Children's Services
Karla Rowe, lead
administrator of Cancer Services at Southwest Washington Medical Center, has
been appointed administrative director for Women’s & Children’s Services at the
medical center.
Women’s Services include the Family Birth Center, Healthy
Steps Women’s and Children’s Center, Breast Care Center, and the Bariatric
Surgical and Weight Management Center.
Rowe, who began her career at the medical center as a
hospice nurse, has worked with the Cancer Center since 1989. She helped develop
the Ray Hickey Hospice House in 2004.
Rowe will continue to work as the interim administrative
director for Cancer Services until a permanent replacement is selected.
Mass in honor of Pope Benedict XVI
at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church
A special mass honoring the election of Pope Benedict XVI
will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S.
Andresen Road.
The public is invited to attend.
Free Clinic gets first
Allan Weinstein grant
The first Allan Weinstein Swift for Kids grant has been
awarded to the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington. The award was announced
last week by Southwest Washington Independent Forward Thrust at its annual
auction.
The $10,000 grant will be used by the clinic for its Tots
'n Teeth Dental program.
The Tots 'n Teeth program, in collaboration with NW
Medical Team’s mobile dental van, provides urgent dental care to children
without dental insurance.
1-5 south of 134th Avenue
to close briefly Thursday
All southbound lanes on I-5 between the 1-205 split and
NE 99th Street will be closed between 10 p.m. Thursday, April 21, until Friday,
April 22, while crews pave new sections of the widened freeway.
A detour will be set up between NE 134th Avenue and the
southbound entry to 1-5 at the NE 99th Street interchange.
Nautilus CEO Hammann to
keynote chamber luncheon
Nautilus chair, president and CEO
Gregg Hammann will be the keynote speaker
at the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce second annual Excellence in
Enterprise Luncheon at noon, Thursday, June 9, in the Red Lion Hotel at the
Quay.
Nautilus, headquartered in Vancouver, was formed in 1986
and has over 1,100 employees worldwide. The company manufactures and markets a
variety of health and fitness products including Nautilus, Bowflex, Schwinn,
Fitness, StairMaster and Trimline.
Hammann joined Nautilus in July 2003 as president and CEO
and was appointed chair in March 2004. Hammann has held executive positions with
Levi Strauss, Coca-Cola, Rayovac and Procter & Gamble. He was a wide receive
for the University of Iowa football team and earned a masters degree from the
University of Wisconsin.
Luncheon tickets are $35 if paid by June 1, $40 after
