Comprehensive Growth Plan, currently under review by Clark County commissioners,

Oregon Adventists Men’s Chorus
to benefit YWCA SafeChoice
The 200-voice Oregon Adventist Men’s
Chorus is presenting two concerts Saturday, May 7, to benefit the UWCA of Clark
County’s SafeChoice Domestic Violence Shelter. The concerts are at 3:30 and 7:30
p.m. in the Skyview High School Concert Hall, 1300 NW 139th Street.
The chorus, formed in 1994, is
conducted by Lou Wildman, and is being
presented by the Clark Count Seventh-Day Adventist churches.
Although tickets are free, they must
be reserved in advance by calling 892-2926.
A freewill offering will be taken during each concert, according to spokesperson
John Wesslen.
Vancouver needs more
shade, report shows
Trees in the Vancouver urban area
cover about 20 percent of the land according to a first-ever comprehensive
report generated by a geographic information system. The target set by Vancouver
is a tree canopy of 28 percent, according to the city’s urban forester
Charles Ray.
Ray says about 67 percent of the trees
are on private property, 20 percent on public property, and 12.5 percent along
rights-of-way.

Clark College bookstore
wins national prize
The Clark College bookstore has taken
top honors in the national Dynamic Displays contest held by
The College Store magazine. The
award-winning display promoted children’s books.
With the national award came a $500
prize, which will be used to buy additional display fixtures for the bookstore.
Bag of jewelry prompts
police to seek owners
A car stolen from a Gresham auto
dealership, recovered in Vancouver last week, was found to have a bag full of
stolen jewelry, including a number of pocket watches, according to
Kim Kapp, Vancouver Police information
coordinator.
Kapp says the stolen property can be
reclaimed by owners who can provide documentation for the items. Documentation
can include a pre-filed police report, photographs and jeweler’s appraisals. To

Heather Rhone, an early learning project coordinator for the Fort
Vancouver Regional Library District last week, was presented the fourth annual
Library Service Award by Altrusa International of Clark County. Rhone was also
presented with a $500 check which she may use at her discretion to benefit the
library. Rhone was cited for her individualized outreach to families and young
children in her efforts to start out children on a life-long love of reading
books.
