Most residents like quality
of life in Clark County
Four out of five Clark County
residents who responded to a survey conducted in January by the Clark County
Auditor’s office said they rated the quality of life in the county between good
and excellent. Only 12 of 1,139 persons who answered the survey conducted by
mail rated the quality of life in the county as poor.
Only 20 percent of those answering the
survey expressed concern over the time it took them to drive to work. Twelve
percent said they thought it took too long to drive to wherever they shop.
Two-thirds of those answering the
survey rated the level of safety in the county as good or excellent.
Issues citizens were most concerned
about were, in order of seriousness, crime, county taxes, growth and sprawl,
employment and the economy, planning and zoning, infrastructure (including
roads), local environment, property rights, health services, housing, social
services and parks.
More than half of those responding to
the survey had lived in the county for 11 years or more. Four out of five had
some college education. Nearly one out of four said they worked in Oregon. One
person out of three said they worked out of his or her home.
The survey was part of a rating
process conducted by the auditor to determine the effectiveness of county
government.
