Southwest Washington Medical Center's $146 million expansion information

Is the proposed project at our Daybreak property in the public interest? You decide.

After reclamation, the property will be turned over to a conservation organization with a one million dollar endowment to assure its care in perpetuity.

Call 397-2232 and let the commissioners know that
solid science and not politics must guide their decision regarding the project.

Boise Cascade to sell; Vancouver could
a
cquire 27 acres of downtown riverfront

Boise Cascade today announced it is selling its 27-acre waterfront property in Vancouver west the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay on the Columbia River.

“This is great news for Vancouver,” Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard said today. “Now we can continue the momentum generated by the first phase of downtown redevelopment.”

Boise is a member of the team developing Vancouver’s City Center Vision plan. The new vision plan focuses on developing additional Columbia River waterfront, specifically the Boise Cascade paper converting plant now for sale.

Miles Hewitt, senior vice president and general manager for Boise Paper, says, “After exploring a number of options we have concluded that the best business case for Boise is to proceed with the sale of the property, which would allow for development of the site for higher and better commercial use.”

Boise Cascade is exploring its options, one of which is relocating the equipment to another site. If the operations are relocated every attempt will be made to keep the jobs in the Vancouver area, Boise officials say. There are 67 jobs involved at the current location.

Zimbabwe native Dorothy Chitembure
Wright telling inspiring story to new audiences

Dorothy Chitembure-Wright, a 2005 YWCA of Clark County Women of Achievement award winner and founder of “Distant Cry,” recently began taking her message of peace, hope and humanity to local audiences.Chitembure-Wright works for the City of Vancouver as a human resources department support specialist.

In 2004, the City’s mediation department adopted her family in Zimbabwe for Christmas, helping to raise money to purchase egg-laying chickens. With that, the “Distant Cry Fund” for the Chicken Project was founded, resulting in self-sufficiency for about 13 children and 17 adults in her home town and growing.

Through speaking engagements, Chitembure-Wright’s aim is to expand her mission of creating awareness of the desperate need for help on the African continent. She is also a singer and poet and has recorded a CD of music and poetry to help raise money for those in need. In addition, she has authored her autobiography, which she hopes to soon have published.

Groups and organizations looking for a speaker to relate how to make a difference, become inspired or gain insight regarding African culture may contact Chitembure-Wright at drudzi@msn.com or 546-3465.
