Security Signs named one of the Portland’s Security Sign Company, owned by Tom and Carol Keljo, Camas, has been named number 85 in the list of top 100 fastest growing private companies in Oregon by the Business Journal of Portland. The Keljos bought the 80-year-old company—it’s the oldest company on the business journal’s list—in 1997. At that time the company had nine employees and was doing $1 million worth of business a year. As the end of 2004, Security Sign had 25 employees and did $3.6 million in business. The Keljo’s son Kevin is general manager of the company. Melching reception is Friday A reception honoring Rick Melching’s service to Evergreen Public Schools as its superintendent for the past nine years is at 6 p.m. Friday, June 24, in the Heathman Lodge ballroom. Ten
vocalists to compete Ten local-area high school vocalists have been selected for the Fourth of July singing competition that begins at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4, in Vancouver barracks. The competition is part of the day’s festivities in Comcast Presents 4th of July, culminating after dark with one of the largest fireworks displays in the nation. The singing contestants are the following: Melissa Fairhurst, Chelsia Jordan and Angelica Lewis, all of Camas High School; Sarah Gile, Evergreen High School; Catherine Kohl, Clark College Running Start; Lisa McGuire, Skyview High School; Alicia Mercer, Battle Ground High School; Asia Smith, Heritage High School; Drew Swenson, Hudson’s Bay High School; and Dan Wheelon, Prairie High School. Vancouver police giving away gun locks The Vancouver Police Department is giving away free cable-style gun locks, from each of the city’s police precincts, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday through the summer.
