Mike Worthy and Tom Mears head
list of Save C-TRAN backers

Save C-TRAN, a grass-roots group organizing to promote a .02 percent sales tax ballot measure to prevent Clark County’s transit system from being cut down to a Vancouver area-only bus service, already includes a couple of industrial-strength supporters, Mike Worthy, president of the Bank of Clark County, and Tom Mears, president of the Holland-Burgerville USA.

Co-campaign directors, for the committee are Kathy McDonald, KMac & Associates, LLC, and Randy Mueller, both of Vancouver.

According to McDonald, the steering committee also has a number of past and current state legislators and other government officials aboard, as well as representatives from labor and business groups and neighborhood associations.

The theme of the campaign that runs through the Tuesday, Sept. 20 primary is, “You asked and they delivered.” The theme is an echo of signs on C-TRAN’s newest smaller, more efficient buses, reflecting that the agency, indeed followed public input, and put smaller buses in service.

Last November C-TRAN asked for a .03 percent sales tax but 54 percent of the voters countywide opposed the issue. C-TRAN since has made adjustments, reduced the size of its service area and has come up with a proposal that is a third smaller than that which failed.

For further information, or to volunteer time or donate money, call McDonald or Mueller at 713-8705.
