Southwest Washington Medical Center's $146 million expansion information

Is the proposed project at our Daybreak property in the public interest? You decide.

All water rights will be donated to the state in trust for in-stream flow enhancement (an estimated total of 5% of the groundwater rights in the EFLR basin).

Call 397-2232 and let the commissioners know that
solid science and not politics must guide their decision regarding the project.

Herbert Walker presented delayed
Bronze Star from Congressman Baird

A Bronze Star for the heroism that Vancouver’s Herbert Walker displayed over 50 years ago in central Europe was presented by U.S. Rep. Brian Baird today. Baird had helped Walker pursue his claim for the medal and citation.

Walker, on Feb. 20, 1945, was a T-5 with the 90th Reconnaissance Troop, taking part in a battle in Germany when American infantrymen were forced to withdraw from a fight leaving 22 wounded soldiers exposed to heavy small arms and artillery fire. Although enemy fire was concentrated on him, Walker moved a 1/4-ton vehicle to an exposed position and provided steady machine gun fire to cover an aid party which was able to rescue all of the wounded.

Baird is also helping Walker pursue a claim for a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.

Error bugs running amok at Insider

Within seconds after the Insider corrected the Kyle and Tami Kihs story yesterday, properly giving Kihs his title as Pearson Air Museum director back, a subscriber informed us we had misspelled Kihs. Indeed we had. It is spelled correctly here.

In that same edition, in a story about Vancouver city councilwoman Jeanne Harris’s announcement that she will file for reelection, we reported that councilwoman Jeanne Stewart’s position is up for election, too. We don’t know Stewart’s intentions, but gave her credit for the quote that belongs to Harris. What Harris said was, “I want to see the city continue to reinvent itself….Let’s imagine a waterfront with shops and restaurants and open space to enjoy the river.”

Despite all of its eccentricities, an electronic publication is very forgiving. We were able to go back to the website and correct all of the misspellings and misquotings so that those who go through our back issues (we have nearly three years’ worth) will always find Kihs properly titled, correctly spelled, and Harris properly quoted.
