Longview Fibre, Nautilus and Riverview on list
of region’s top 100 strongest public companies

What Longview Fibre, Longview, Nautilus, 1400 NE 146th Avenue, Vancouver, and Riverview Bancorp, 900 Washington Street, Vancouver, have in common is that they are again on the list of the region’s strongest public traded companies as compiled annually by the Seattle Times.

Longview Fibre, with 6,930 points, leads the list in 52nd place, up from number 98 a year ago. Nautilus, earning 5,690 points rated 77 place, having fallen from number 17 a year ago. Riverview Bancorp, with 5,045 points, for 90th place, was down from its 51st place ranking a year ago.

The companies were rated in four categories: sales per employee, operating income, return on equity, and stock price.

Four of the Seattle newspaper’s top five are headquartered in Portland: Barrett Business Services, Schnitzer Steel Industries, Flir Systems, and LaCrosse Footwear.

Dave Yewman headlines
marketing chamber trade show

Dave Yewman, owner of Vancouver-based DASH Consulting Inc., is the keynote speaker for the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce marketing trade show, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, in the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay.

Yewman will illustrate how to pass the “Who Cares” and “So What” communications tests.

Yewman, who recently formed DASH Consulting to help manage corporate and organizational communications, is a former award-winning reporter and columnist for the Galveston Daily News, who became general manager of Weber Shandwick’s Portland advertising office before establishing DASH Consulting. He also was with the Waggener Edstrrom PR team, whose clients included Microsoft.

Vancouver Business Journal to
name top construction projects

Top Construction Projects of 2005 awards will be presented during a Vancouver Business Journal special event from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, in the Clark County Center for Community Health, which itself is one of the top 25 projects of the year.

Gov. Christine Gregoire will be keynote speaker.

Construction in Clark County over the past year has been valued at over $360 million and has employed 5,200 workers, according to business journal publisher John McDonagh.

The Center for Community Health, still under construction, is near the main entrance to the Veterans Administration complex on Fourth Plain Boulevard. For reservations, call Jennifer Young, 695-2442.

Kristina Tonkovich has been assigned by the Columbia River Economic Development Council to help determine whether a research and development park should be in Clark County’s future. The Vancouver intern is a junior at Washington State University Pullman.
