Hilton Vancouver Washington
lists eight local restaurants

The flap over the Hilton Vancouver Washington hotel having listed only Portland restaurants through its reservations website is mostly over, reports Vancouver Media Services director Donna Mason.

There are now eight local restaurants listed as a link to the hotel’s local website, http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/dining.jhtml?ctyhocn=PDXVAHH.

The restaurants are Bacchus, Beaches Restaurant & Lounge, Hudson’s, Little Italy’s Trattoria, Roots, Rose’s Deli and Bakery, Thai Orchid and Tommy O’s Aloha Café.

Peter Chandler named medical director
for Women’s and Children’s Services

Peter Chandler has been appointed medical director of Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Women’s and Children’s Services. Chandler, who has been with the medical center for the past four years, will continue to head the medical center’s Healthy Steps Women’s and Children’s Center. Chandler is also chair-elect of SWMC’s OB-GYN committee.

“During his four years at Healthy Steps, Dr. Chandler has helped solidify an already strong program while working to expand GYN services for underserved women in our community,” according to Dan Keteri, the medical center’s vice president of Patient Care Services.

Chandler attended the UCLA School of Public Health and completed his medical training at Northwestern Medical School. Prior to coming to Southwest Washington Medical Center, Chandler was a major in the U.S. Air Force.

Three days, 15 concerts,
Vancouver Wine & Jazz

Jose Feliciano, six-time jazz and pop legend, closes out three days of 15 concerts the last weekend of August during the 8th annual Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival in Esther Short Park.

The closing acts are three-time Grammy Award winner, Los Lobos! 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, America’s number one Latin jazz Orchestra, The Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Orchestra, 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, and Jose Feliciano, 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28.

But, there’s more, says the festival’s promoter Michael Kissinger. Other headliners are The Four Freshmen, Trio (Stanley Clarke, Bela Fleck and Jean-Luc Ponty). And, more: The Mel Brown Quartet, Dan Balmer Trio, The Seattle Jazz Singers, Kathy Walker Band, The Kid Lopez Band, Laura Welland Group, Northwest Jazz: The Dennis Caiazza Quartet, Three Fifths Compromise, David Evans Quartet, and Dan Schulte Sextet.

The festival also includes the work of 55 fine artists, and wine from 35 wineries. Servers from ten area restaurants also will be on hand.

Tickets are $15 per day, in advance, $20 at the gate. Three-day passes are available for $40. Tickets are available at TicketsWest outlets and on line by going to www.vancouverwinejazz.com, where further information is also available.

Author J. A. Jance begins book tour
in Vancouver to benefit local libraries

J. A. Jance, New York Times bestselling author, begins a book tour for the newest in her J. P. Beaumont series, Long Time Gone, at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in Barnes & Noble, 7700 NE Fourth Plain Boulevard.

Jance is returning to Vancouver a year after being featured speaker for the Vancouver Regional Library Foundation’s 2004 Authors & Illustrators Dinner. Jance will discuss her books, answer questions and will autograph her latest volume.

A book fair that begins Thursday continues through Friday, July 29, during which time a percentage of net sales on books will be contributed to the library foundation.

Cancer center volunteers sought;
no experience necessary

Volunteers are being sought for Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Cancer Center, reports Karin Davidson, volunteer coordinator for the medical center.

No previous experience is necessary. New volunteers will join other volunteers who support patients in the Infusion Oncology Department (chemotherapy) and the Breast Care Center.

A volunteer training session will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the medical center. Call Davidson at 514-3125 for further information.

Vancouver attorney Mark F. Stoker, today filed for the unexpired two-year term in position 4 on the Vancouver School Board. Stoker currently serves on the Vancouver School District Foundation Board, the Vancouver Rotary Club Foundation Board, and the I have a Dream Of Southwest Washington Foundation Board.
