Clark invites prospective machining
technology students for look-see

An open house for prospective machining technology students is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in the new Clark College machining shop, Building AA5, at the 1800 E McLoughlin Boulevard campus.

For over half a century Clark College has provided machining technology courses for local employers, including Columbia Machine Corp. Tidland Corp., Columbia Steel, USNR, Freightliner Corp., and Boeing.

Entry-level jobs pay between $8.50 and $12 an hour, while top-level jobs pay up to $24 an hour.

Group charged with amending
wetlands ordinance meets today

The Wetlands Ordinance Working Group will review the applicability and exemptions sections of Clark County’s Wetlands Ordinance at 4 p.m. today in the 6th floor training room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street.

The group, which was created by Clark County commissioners to make recommendations for changes in the county’s Wetlands Ordinance, is headed by county commissioner Steve Stuart.

Other members of the group are as follows: Gary Bock, Bob Burns, James Howsley, John Karpinski, David Lugliani, Tammy Mackey, Steve Madsen, Tim Schauer, Bridget Schwarz and Dean Swanson.

City beautifiers to be honored
at Thursday concert in the park

Sparkles Awards, presented annually to citizens to have taken an extra step in helping to beautify their Vancouver neighborhoods, will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, just prior to the Six-to-Sunset concert in Esther Short Park.

Volunteers for the Southwest Washington Medical Center Cancer Center are being sought, reports volunteer coordinator Karen Davidson. Davidson says flexible volunteer opportunities are available and no previous volunteer experience is necessary. A volunteer training session is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30. For further information and to register for the training session, call Davidson at 514-3125. n Clark County pet licensing officers will begin their annual canvassing of county neighborhoods for unlicensed dogs and cats Tuesday, Aug. 16. While canvassing, officers will issue violation notices to owners of pets without licenses, distribute pet license applications and informational brochures, and will have licenses available for purchase.
