Officials break ground on $7 million
east precinct multipurpose complex

Vancouver police and public works and parks officials today broke ground on a $7 million east precinct complex, that, in addition to housing the main police department presence in east Vancouver, will provide a public meeting room, a two-acre park, and offices for the city Public Works department serving the east side.

Mayor Royce Pollard said that the partnership among the police department, Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation, and the city Public Works Department demonstrates the effective and efficient use of city resources by collocating three city services on one site.

The complex is being built at Mill Plain Boulevard and NE 155th Avenue. To be completed in mid-2006, the police precinct will be open 24 hours a day.

All-mail election notices sent

All Clark County registered voters have been notified by the Auditor’s office that the Sept. 20 primary election, as well as all future elections in the county, will be conducted entirely by mail.

Unregistered voters have until Saturday, Aug. 20, to request by mail voter registration forms. Potential voters may also register in person at the county Elections Department, 1408 Franklin Street, through Friday, Sept. 2.

Although ballots will be sent to all registered voters by mail and may be completed and returned by mail, voters will have an option of dropping off completed ballots at ballot drop locations, and voters ma also deposit their completed ballots in a ballot box at the elections department through the day of the election.

CREDC members to envision
future of Vancouver’s waterfront

William P. Macht will discuss redevelopment of downtown Vancouver, to take advantage of its waterfront and transportation opportunities, at the quarterly meeting of the Columbia River Economic Development Council at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Heathman Lodge.

Macht is president of Macht & Company, a development, management, consulting and investment firm, and is an adjunct professor of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University.

Macht also directed the public-private development of Officers Row in downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver’s waterfront west of the Red Lon Hotel at the Quay will soon be up for grabs when about 27 acres along the river are sold by Boise Cascade.

Admission to the luncheon is $30. For further information, call 694-5006.
