of Kalani Rodrigues An award-winning Clark College track star, Kalani Rodrigues loved to run but lost his race against brain cancer. On Saturday, Aug. 20, Rodrigues’s family and friends will be running and walking in his memory to find a cure for the disease that claimed his life at the age of 21. The Kalani Rodrigues (K-Rod) Memorial Scholarship Walk/Run will begin at 7:45 a.m. at the Heritage High School parking lot at 7825 NE 130th Avenue and will end at Clark College's O'Connell Sports Complex. A dedicated student and athlete, Rodrigues played football at Cascade Junior High School and Evergreen High School before transferring to Heritage. He took classes at Clark College and hoped to become a forensic fire investigator. He was a model student, earning a 4.0 and making the Dean’s list in 2003. Earliest runners are expected to finish at the college around 10 a.m. The majority of runners are expected to arrive around 10:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Clark College Penguin Athletic Club.
