Marc Boldt to head meth task force

Clark County Commissioner Marc Boldt has been appointed chairman of a Clark County Meth Task Force, formed yesterday after a three-hour work session of law enforcement, medical, public and environmental health, justice, children and family service, and drug, alcohol and mental health representatives.

The summit was introduced by chair of the board of Clark County Commissioners, Betty Sue Morris, who in her State of the County Address last January called for eradication of methamphetamine as a top county priority for 2005.

Initial recommendations for addressing the impact of methamphetamine abuse are expected by the end of the year.

For further information, call Boldt at 397-2232.

News brief

Don Russo, of Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt’s Vancouver office, says an easy way for local companies and firms to make contributions to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort would be to do as his firm is doing: match collective attorney and staff contributions up to $1,500. The $3,000 is being sent to Mercy Corps and the American Red Cross.

Meanwhile state attorney general Rob McKenna today encouraged Washington residents to support disaster relief but cautioned contributors to be on the lookout for charity scams, including bogus solicitations by e-mail and phone.

"Washington residents should not let cons exploit their generosity," McKenna said. "I encourage people to

do what they can to support victims of Hurricane Katrina by donating directly to familiar charities."
