George McCoy earns full
WSU Vancouver scholarship

George McCoy, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Clark College, will be awarded the first Bank of Clark County Endowed Scholarship. McCoy was also honored as a Clark College Outstanding Student during the 2004-2005 academic year.

The full-tuition scholarship will be presented annually to a Clark College student who continues his or her studies at Washington State University Vancouver, maintained a high grade point average, and has demonstrated leadership and a commitment to community service. McCoy, a full-time student at WS Vancouver, is majoring in public affairs.

According to Clark College President Wayne Branch, “While maintaining a high academic grade point average McCoy also served as activities director for the Associated Students of Clark College, chaired the ASCC Programming Board, actively participated in ASCC’s Constitution and Bylaws committee, and served on the Clark College Executive Council.”

McCoy’s background in community service includes serving as assistant field director for U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd), volunteering at the Clark County Assessors Office, participating in Students for Political Action Now, and volunteering at the Lost and Found Café, which provides food to those in need. He was Senior Class president at Camas High School, where he was a member of the school’s Leadership, AP Government, AP Literature, Japanese, and Physics Clubs.

McCoy was recognized by the Vancouver Business Journal as an “Accomplished Under 40” honoree in 2004, when he was just 19 years old.

The award will be presented at the annual WSU Vancouver Scholarship Recognition luncheon at noon, Thursday, Sept. 8, in Room 130 of the WSU Vancouver Student Services Building.
