Clark County Democrats elect Chris Bassett as
central committee chair

The Clark County Democrats yesterday elected Chris Bassett,  as new central committee chair. Bassett succeeds Carleen Pagni. Bassett is a computer consultant who has served as central committee vice-chair for the Clark County Democrats for the past year.

Bassett says his top immediate goal is to recruit additional precinct committee officers for the county’s 180 precincts. About 30-40 additional positions need to be filled. Habitat for Humanity breakfast

Larry Prible, member of the international board of Habitat for Humanity and past chairman and CEO of the $17 billion Indianapolis Life Insurance Company, is the keynote speaker of the Evergreen Habitat for Humanity second annual fund raising breakfast in the Hilton Vancouver Washington at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16.

Evergreen Habitat for Humanity has helped finance and build 16 houses in Clark County. Affordable housing is built using volunteer labor, financial donations and donated materials. Evergreen Habit for Humanity finances the purchase of houses with no-interest loans. The low-income home buyer in Clark County typically puts in 500 hours of “sweat equity” in building the house.

Fairgrounds Community Park plans to be shown

A presentation on the proposed master plan for the Fairgrounds Community Park, an 88-acre park to be located at NW 11th Avenue and NW 164th Street, will be presented as part of an open house conducted by the Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Public Safety Complex, 505 NW 179th Street, west of the Clark County fairgrounds.

Bicycle Advisory Committee has vacancy

Applicants are being sought to serve on the Clark County Bicycle Advisory Committee . This group will advise the county and participating city government staff on matters involving bicycle transportation.

County residents, 16 years of age and older who have a demonstrated interest in bicycle issues, are encouraged to apply, according to county Public Works Department spokesperson Ejaz Kahn.
