Reichstag where German bundestag meets in Berlin Nearly two dozen members of the Clark College German Club, recently returned from Germany, will be showing slide pictures of their tour of Berlin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Foster Auditorium. The public is invited, and there is no charge. Clark German professor Julian Nelson, who shepherded the students, says the tour embodied the college’s five C’s—communication, cultures, connections, comparisons and communities. Margaret Colf-Hepola to The Clark County Historical Society will present its 2006 Heritage Award to Woodland resident Margaret Colf-Hepola. comments The U.S. Corps of Engineers is accepting comments on an Environmental Impact Statement that it will prepare prefatory to approval of the proposed 500-acre Gateway industrial expansion at the Port of Vancouver. Port of Vancouver plans call for industrial development of part of its holdings north of the flushing channel on the Columbia River that would enhance the import-export opportunities within the lower Columbia River region. The Corps of Engineers is expected to limit the number of alternatives in the draft EIS to the port’s proposal or no project at all. The Corps of Engineers is also considering separate environmental processes for proposed railroad improvements at the port and at the NW 26th Avenue extension. These two projects are being treated separately from the Gateway draft EIS. Comments on the draft EIS must be made to the Corps of Engineers by Monday, Dec. 11. For further information, call (503) 808-4393. Skills Center dental clinic
Extensive remodeling of the Clark County Skills Center dental clinic, 12200 NE 28th Street, will be unveiled at an open house from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, according to Valerie Schmitt, director of the Dental Assisting Program. In addition to providing training for students, the clinic, working with local dentists, provides dental care for low-income citizens. The clinic offers five dental treatment rooms, four of which have new dental chairs and X-ray units. Patterson Dental Supply coordinated the $128,000 upgrading project. The Skills Center is owned and operated by ten southwest Washington School Districts.
