Steve Harris, CVTV video producer, who wrote and produced a five-minute video promotional piece for employment of people with disabilities, has earned a top award from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers & Advisors for the piece, which has been used by at least 100 local audiences. Harris was presented the third place award in the special audience category by NATOA in Washington, D.C., earlier this month. Harris was also cited locally by the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board and the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce in recognition of “Outstanding service and promotion of employment for people with disabilities.” Harris, a graduate of Montana State University, has been with CVTV for the past eight years. He began his career in television with the Public Broadcasting System in Spokane in 1988. The video was produced for the Clark County Community Services Developmental Disabilities Program. C-TRAN connector service Planning sessions for C-TRAN connector service to Yacolt, Ridgefield and La Center begin with a 3 p.m. meeting this afternoon in the Student Services Building, Washington State University Vancouver. Connector service will return public transit service to these Clark County communities as a result of the successful election in September that added .2 percent to the sales tax to support C-TRAN services. “We look forward to working closely with citizens in designing their own C-TRAN connector services,” C-TRAN executive director/CEO Lynne Griffith says. Additional meetings will be held in the individual communities beginning next week. Survey on homelessness underway An on-line survey is being conducted by the Clark County Council for the Homeless as part of its initiative to reduce homelessness by 50 percent over the next ten years. “To end homelessness we need affordable housing, livable wages, and services for those who need them,” says Kim Connor, executive director for the council. People Brother and sister Russ and Gayle Beacock, owners of Beacock Music, are hosting representatives of 16 music companies from across the United States this week in a tour of their Vancouver store and a five-day symposium on successful independent music retailing strategies. n State Rep. Richard Curtis (R-18th) has been appointed to the Clark County Methamphetamine Task Force. Curtis will work with area officials to fight what is considered to be a local ‘meth’ epidemic. News briefs The first two lanes of the long-awaited SE 192nd Avenue connection to Highway 14 have opened to 25-mile-per-hour traffic, reports Charles Fell, Vancouver Construction Services project engineer. Fell reminds that because construction is continuing, law enforcement officers will be using radar to enforce the speed limit. The four-lane arterial is scheduled to be completed next January. n The Clark County Chamber of Commerce and LacamasLife, Camas publishing company, have formed a partnership to produce a new business magazine to be called Clark County Business Connection Magazine, reports Marlene Berg, the chamber’s membership director. LacamasLife is the publisher of LacamasLife Magazine. No date has been set for the first issue. However, inquiries about advertising are being accepted. For further information, call 834-3859.
