MONDAY, NOV. 7, 2005 Clark to accept medical
radiography applications Clark College, preparing to accept 48 medical radiography students this spring, is offering informational meetings on the new applied science course beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, in Gaiser Hall. Applications for the two-year course of instruction will be available Monday, Nov. 21, according to Liza Pletcher, executive dean for workforce development. Clark’s board of trustees and the state Board for Community and Technical Colleges last month approved the new program. The college is provisionally approved for 48 students in the course that leads to an associate degree in applied science. For further information, call 699-6398. Ballots must be returned November 8 general election ballots must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, Nov. 8, or placed in one of 32 ballot drop-off locations in Clark County by 8 p.m., reminds Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey. Ballot drop-off locations can be found by going to www.clark.wa.gov/elections/ballotdroplocations.html. Including today’s mail, 64,603 general election ballots have been returned. The day before the September 20 primary election, 60,119 ballots had been returned. Election watchers are predicting a total turnout of registered Clark County voters of between 40 and 50 percent. Christmas tree train will roll in December As part of its consent agenda, the board of Clark County commissioners will consider an ordinance allowing the Battle Ground, Yacolt and Chelatchie Prairie Railroad Association to resume its annual Christmas Tree excursions in December. A contractual dispute between BYCX , a volunteer organization, and Columbia Basin Railroad, which leases the county’s the rail line between Vancouver and Chelatchie Prairie had threatened to curtail the annual Christmas excursions. Excursions are expected to begin December 3 and continue through December 18. Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit will Clark County Kiwanis Clubs will receive their annual shipment of 2,000 cases of Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit Tuesday, Nov. 8, reports Kiwanian Lynn Degerstedt, who adds that the entire shipment sold out in less than two weeks last year. The grapefruit is $14 per case of 18 to 20 grapefruit and can be ordered through any Kiwanian, according to Degerstedt, or by calling Bill Mitchell, 892-6897, or Orin Swanson, 695-7132. Chili Feed, auction The fourth annual Soroptimst-chili feed and silent auction is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the Leupke Center, 1009 E McLoughlin Boulevard. Admission is $10. The event concludes in time for participants to go to Clark College to hear general election results that are to be revealed at 8:30 p.m. in Gaiser Hall, according to Soroptimist spokesperson Val Ogden. The entire proceeds from the event will be used to provide scholarships for women who are enrolled in vocational-technical educational programs. For further information, call 695-7211.

The Free Clinic is the only free, walk-in clinic available to children and adults who are low income and uninsured. D’Agostino’s priority assignment will be to increase the number of volunteers for the clinic’s pharmacy and its medical technician staff. Calendar The Vancouver City Council does not meet in workshop session this week, but will meet in informal session at 5 p.m. today to discuss the city’s ten-year-old traffic calming program.
