Paul Weller, new planner
at MacKay & Sposito

Paul Weller has been appointed as a planner at MacKay & Sposito Inc., reports the company’s vice president of planning, Henry Diaz.

Weller has already assisted the Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department in updating the county regional trail and bikeway systems plan. “Paul’s experience as an engineer combined, with his planning expertise, will strengthen the services we offer both to our public and private development clients,” Diaz says.

Weller is a graduate of Brigham Young University and holds masters degrees in urban and regional planning and public administration from Eastern Washington University. He is a licensed engineer-in-training.

MacKay & Sposito is an engineering, land and construction surveying and land-use planning firm with offices in Washington and Oregon.

Gingerbread house votes can be bought

Voting has already begun to determine the best gingerbread house in the third annual Clark College Alumni Association Holiday Gingerbread Contest. The winner will be announced during the Vancouver Festival of Trees Celebration in the Hilton Vancouver Washington, November 25 through 27.

The architecturally designed, organizationally built structures are on display in the Westfield Vancouver Mall, where balloting is done by stuffing dollar bills into ballot boxes attached to each structure. Proceeds go to benefit Clark alumni and Rotary Club charities.

The six entries are on display are as follows:

Gingerbread Junction, depicting the Vancouver train station, is designed by Barrantine Bates & Lee, constructed by Clark College Culinary Art Students. The entry is sponsored by MacKay & Sposito Inc.

Visions of Sugar Plums, designed by LSW Architects, was constructed by students in the Clark County Skills Center Restaurant Management Program.

The Night Before Christmas-Kiggins House, designed by DSP Architects and built by Fort Vancouver Culinary Art students, is sponsored by AHA!

The Grant House was designed by Architects Associative and built by students at the Culinary School Reserve. The Grant House is sponsored by The Restaurant at the Historic Reserve.

The Log-in/:log-out House, designed by architect Kevin Cooley and built by Hilton Vancouver Washington chefs, is sponsored by Harry’s Fresh Foods.

The Gingerbread Putt House was designed by Wilson and Associates, and was built by and is sponsored by Royal Oaks Country Club.

People

Three faculty members and two classified employees have been selected by Clark College colleagues and students as the best in representing Clark College service to students and the community for 2005. They are John Clausen, director of Medical Office Programs, Barbara Davenport, credentials coordinator for Health Occupation Programs, Dick Shamrell, Physics professor, Janette Steinmueller, instructional technician in the Business Administration Department, and Jean Watson, Health Occupations instructor.

The deadline for nominating Clark County Women of Achievement is 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, reports Annie Gannon, spokeswoman for the YWCA of Clark County. The YWCA and Clark College are sponsors of Women of Achievement Awards, which next year will be presented March 8.
