Vancouver city property tax rate to go down
while overall city revenue will increase

The Vancouver city council is expected to approve an ordinance approving a 1 percent increase in city property tax during its 7 p.m. public meeting this evening in City Hall but because of overall increased assessed value, the tax rate for individual properties will decrease.

The city estimates it will get a total tax levy increase of $335,182 from the 2006 tax levy, and will get an additional $677,949 from assessments on $218 million in new construction added in 2005.

The city estimates that the tax rate for 2006 will be $2.84 per $1000 assessed value. At that rate the annual City property taxes on a typical property ($200,000 assessed value) would be $568, or $52 less than the taxes paid to the City in 2005 on a home of the same assessed value.

The exact tax rate will be set by the Clark County assessor for tax bills that will be due in 2006.
