Completion of crime lab in Vancouver
top of city’s wish list for 2006 session

The City of Vancouver will lobby the 2006 session of the state legislature to provide $1.92 million in the capital budget for the Washington State Patrol, to complete the patrol’s crime lab being built in Vancouver. The allocation would allow the second floor of the new facility to be completed.

The city is also asking for $1 million for the Confluence Project, authority to use tax increment financing in helping pay for public infrastructure costs, and greater flexibility to make amendments to comprehensive growth management plans.

The city also supports additional funding for the state Criminal Justice Commission, and to complete the statewide K-12 mapping program, and supports giving local police the authority to issue “e-tickets, according to Mark O. Brown, the city’s lobbyist.

Brown says the city wants to stay focused during the 2006 session and to prepare for the longer, 105-day session that begins in 2007.
